The amber version of Leonardo da Vinci's "Lady with a Weasel"

September 15, 2016 /

It is a real and unique work of art, distinguished by its lasting beauty and timeless character.

Currently, the painting of the Lady with a Weasel can be admired not only in Wawel, where it is exhibited during the renovation of its home Czartoryski Museum in Krakow, but also in the Krakow Amber Museum.

The beauty of amber has been appreciated for many centuries. It is a "stone" remembering the earliest history. Its warm color and unique shapes inspire to create not only jewelry or utility items, but also amazing sculptures framed like the one mentioned in this article. Amber sculptures depict the stories of the paintings of famous painters and the works of outstanding sculptors.

The amber version of Lady with a Weasel was commissioned by Marian Kellar. The author and designer is the company Art Amber Kuś, which is owned by Przemysław Kuś with his father Wiesław. Their company has been in existence for 13 years, although they have been doing carving for much longer. Earlier it was wood, even potatoes and soap.

When did their adventure with carving in amber start? How much material is lost during carving? Is every piece suitable for creating these amazing stories? ... The answers to these and many other questions can be found in interview by Anna Sado for the amber.com.pl portal.
