Amber Museum

The Amber Museum is a unique place, born of the passion for amber of its originator and owner Tomasz Mikołajczyk

The location in the heart of Krakow is not accidental: the capital of Lesser Poland is - right after Gdańsk, called the World Capital of Amber - most strongly associated with this stone, characteristic of Poland. Although there are many "amber" places on the map of Krakow, the Amber Museum is certainly the most important one.

Why? Because hundreds of unique exhibits have been gathered here showing the natural beauty of Baltic amber, testifying to its uniqueness. They provide valuable knowledge about the formation and history of processing this stone, sensitize to its beauty and the variety of forms and colors. The exhibition shows why so many people in the world think that it is amber that is the most beautiful among all stones. All this makes the Amber Museum a unique place to which you want to come back.

In addition to the permanent exhibition entitled "Amber - its beauty and history", with exhibits borrowed from the Earth Museum of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, we invite you to temporary exhibitions (ancient and modern art). For children and schoolchildren we offer a guided tour program tailored to their needs. In 2019, a plan to visit our Museum was created, tailored to the needs of the blind and visually impaired.

The Amber Museum conducts not only educational and popularizing activities. In the museum shop, you can see the design of contemporary art products and buy traditional and modern jewelery and applied amber art. The history and the contemporary fate of the resin fossilized before 40 million years ago will be additionally brought closer to the reading room with interesting publications on amber. In the summer season, an ideal place to explore the secrets of amber described in the literature on the subject will be a cafe garden located at the back of the Museum. Pleasant moments spent reading or inspiring conversation will be additionally made even more pleasant by aromatic coffee.
Caring for the purity of amber trade and honesty of merchant practices, the Amber Laboratory was established in the Museum, where resin authenticity tests are performed on a modern spectrometer (FTIR). With the amber sellers and individual customers in mind, we offer the opportunity to check the authenticity of Baltic gold.

Our experts will dispel the doubts of both those who buy amber and those who sell it.
